message announces two major changes to the Army’s process to identify
officers for attendance at SSC, and every officer should understand
their ramifications. Officers must opt into consideration for attendance
at SSC. Any officer who does not opt in will not be considered. The SSC
Board will no longer designate officers as Principal Selects or
Alternates. Instead, the board will generate an Order of Merit List
(OML), which HRC will use to slate officers to school. This ensures the
best qualified and available officers will attend SSC each year.
Officers unable to attend SSC in summer 2025 will recompete in the FY25
