BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION
The servicing Physician Assistant (PA) serves as a primary medical provider delivering Role 1 sick call services to Arizona Army National Guard (AZ ARNG) Soldiers, ensuring timely evaluation, treatment, and disposition of acute and chronic medical conditions encountered during routine and training-related duty. In this capacity, the PA provides direct medical provider oversight in support of the Arizona Medical Detachment (AZ MEDDET) and the Office of the State Surgeon (OTSS) case management program, reviewing Soldier cases, validating treatment plans, and guiding individual medical readiness efforts to maximize the deployable strength of the force.
The PA functions as the State Temporary Profile Officer for all Major Commands (MACOMs) and Direct Reporting Units (DRUs), exercising authority to issue, review, and adjudicate temporary physical profiles in accordance with applicable Army medical readiness regulations and policies, thereby standardizing profile determinations across the enterprise and ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance.
In addition to clinical and oversight responsibilities, the PA plays a central role in expanding organic medical capability within the AZ ARNG by leading the establishment of a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) clinic that is TRICARE-affiliated and credentialed to generate authorized referrals for full-time unit support Soldiers. This effort includes coordinating with state and federal medical stakeholders, supporting accreditation and TRICARE network integration requirements, and building the clinical workflows necessary to deliver continuity of care, specialty referrals, and follow-up services in-house. By developing this capability, the PA reduces reliance on external civilian providers, accelerates access to care, improves medical readiness outcomes, and strengthens the overall health and operational availability of the Arizona Army National Guard.
