Eligibility Requirements
- To qualify for initial entry, applicants must meet initial eligibility requirements IAW NGR 600-5 and AR 135-18, Table 2-1.
- Record Physical Fitness Tests are an annual requirement for M-day Soldiers and a bi-annual requirement for AGR Soldiers (no less than 4 months in between record tests). Applicant must provide most recent DA 705 as applicable per status. Applicants selected for AGR must have a passing record AFT within 6 months of accession for entry into the AGR program.
- All applicants must be screened for waist to height ratio within six months prior to the submission of their packet and subsequently again (within six months) if selected for the AGR program. Those not in compliance with AR 600-9, The Army Body Composition Program and Army Directive 2026-13 (Army Body Composition Program and Standards) will not be considered. Soldiers with a valid pregnancy profile are exempt from this requirement.
- Before being accessed into the AGR program, Soldiers must reflect a current favorable PHA IAW Chapter 3, AR 40-501. Soldiers must be confirmed worldwide deployable (to include austere environments) with no limitations on duty. Applicants must not be MRC3 or MRC4 or on a temporary profile, with the exception of those applicants who are on a pregnancy/postpartum profile.
- Applicants must possess a valid national agency check with local records and credit check and have a favorable background screening prior to entry into the AGR program and security clearance required for the grade.
- Applicants must not have been previously separated for cause from active duty or a previous Reserve Component AGR tour.
- Applicants who are flagged, or should be flagged, for any reason will not be considered for AGR tours.
- Official start date for this position will be determined by the needs of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
- The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Physician Assistant for the 61st Civil Support Team. A Physician Assistant is a medical provider with garrison responsibilities to include day-to-day patient care, medical readiness, medical training, administrative record keeping, and personnel management. Synchronizes medical operations during an emergency response by coordinating with on scene medical personnel, the incident commander, and local receiving hospitals to ensure appropriate evacuation and treatment. Monitors the medical status of personnel downrange during tactical operations and analyzes scientific data along with signs and symptoms to confirm and identify known and unknown chemical, biological, and/or radiological hazards. Functions as special staff officer to the commander, advising on matters pertinent to unit medical readiness. Prescribes courses of treatment and medication when required, and consistent with his/her capabilities and credentials. Interprets information in health records for application to current conditions and makes entries into the health record. Orders diagnostic laboratory tests and medical imaging procedures. Writes consultations to specialty clinics and ancillary services as appropriate. The physician assistant will be the primary source of advice to determine the medical necessity, priority, and requirements for patient evacuation and initial emergency care/stabilization. Supervises preparation of reports pertaining to medical activities. Performs duties under the supervision of a physician in selected specialties. Serves as the medical subject matter expert relating to all CBRN agents and medical countermeasures. Provides input into decontamination procedures and facilitates emergency decontamination of contaminated patients in the tactical environment. Acts as a liaison to multiple state hospital coalitions and advises on CBRN response and capability gaps.
- Supervises the CST respiratory protection and OSHA medical surveillance programs as prescribed in CNGBM 3501.00. Accounts for and maintains required formulary in accordance with AR 40-61. Facilitate medical operations involvement with local agency partners such as the Arkansas Department of Health and the Healthcare Preparedness Coalition. Required to maintain 144 hours of clinical experience annually in addition to maintaining the CST medical program. Candidate must be familiar with systems to include MEDCHART, ASIMS, MHS GENESIS, JLV, MEDPROS, MHA, MWDE, and the Medical Readiness Portal. Familiarity with medical logistics and the shelf-life extension program (SLEP) is beneficial.
- Selectee will be subject to uncommon tours of duty to include being on call 24/7 for immediate emergency response missions, rotational shift assignments, and overtime duty. During the first year of employment, the selectee will be subject to extensive training and travel. The selectee will be required to fly in military or commercial aircraft for temporary duty (TDY) purposes.
- Because of mission requirements, must reside or agree to move within 50 miles of Camp Robinson, North Little Rock, AR.
Medical Requirements
- Officers must complete and pass an OSHA HAZMAT physical exam per CNGBM 3501.00 prior to selection (to include Pulmonary Function Tests). The physical profile (PULHES) requirement for this position is no higher than 122221. Soldiers with a numerical indicator of P3 or P4 in any profile factor (PULHES) will not be considered for this position.
Other Requirements
- Master’s Degree from an accredited College/University acceptable to the Departments of the Army/Air Force. Graduation from a Physician’s Assistant Training Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education programs (CAAHEP) and acceptable to the Army/Air Surgeon General. Certification by the National Committee on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Valid and unrestricted state license to practice as a Physician Assistant. Current BLS and ACLS certifications. ATLS and ABLS preferred. Current DEA license preferred.
- Service Commitment Requirements: Individual and collective team training investment dictates that assignment to the CST requires a minimum three-year tour. Upon selection, must complete mandatory 8-week Civil Support Skills Course (CSSC) at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, within 6 months of assignment conveying the SQI-R required of the position. All applicants applying for 61st WMD-CST positions must meet all the requirements prior to becoming eligible for acceptance into 61st.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current CSSC graduate as well as previous medical operations assignments and experience in plans, operations, and training. Experience also desired in Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) operations, Decontamination (DECON), HAZMAT Chemistry, environmental science and working with First Responders.
