Must be a current on-board AGR in the State of CA within the grade of O3.
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: This position is open to current onboard AGR members of the California Army National Guard in the grades of: O3. The individual selected will receive an AGR duty reassignment order to the announced position. In order to be considered for this position’s applicants must meet minimum qualifications as outlined on this announcement.

Non Branch Qualified / Undergrade Applicants
- Branch qualified is preferred, but you may submit for consideration if Non-Branch Qualified (requires submittal of NDMOSQ ETP endorsed by BDE with lateral application)
- Undergrade Soldiers are eligible to submit for lateral consideration but will only be considered for lateral selection after all of-grade Lateral applicants are considered.
Initial AGR Tour Stabilization Requirements
- AGR personnel in their initial tour are stabilized in their current AGR duty position for a minimum of 24 months if Branch Qualified for their accessed position upon hire and 36 months if not Branch Qualified upon hire (IAW CAARNG Circular 135-18).
*Note: AGR Branch WILL CONSIDER lateral application for onboard AGR Soldiers serving in their initial assignment for a period of at least 18 months as long as applicant submits an Initial Tour Stabilization ETP endorsed by BDE with their lateral application.
MINIMUM APPOINTMENT REQUIREMENTS
- On-board AGR means: The applicant must be a current Active Guard Reserve (AGR) member in the California Army National Guard in order to apply.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION
The Brigade Assistant Operations Officer serves as the principal operations and training synchronization authority, providing critical planning and operational support across four subordinate Battalions. In this high-tempo role, the selected candidate is responsible for the rapid development and production of all operational directives, including OPORDs and FRAGORDs, while designing short- and long-term training plans that execute the Commander’s training guidance. The Assistant Operations Officer maintains strict oversight of subordinate units by reviewing training schedules, evaluating Mission Essential Task Lists (METL) for doctrinal alignment, and establishing robust evaluation programs through Staff Assistance Visits (SAVs) and command-level readiness inspections. As a key secondary responsibility, particularly during state activations, the Assistant Operations Officer supports the primary S3 as an alternate planner and coordinator for Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) missions, helping manage the deployment of military assets and assisting with multi-agency coordination during domestic emergencies.
Furthermore, this officer provides vital technical mentorship to subordinate commanders and operations personnel to optimize training execution. To ensure success in managing these complex, multi-domain operations, it is highly desired that the candidate possesses cross-functional experience in both maneuver and sustainment operations, and is fully prepared to attend all required duty-related functional schools.
Additional Requirements
No record of disciplinary action under UCMJ or pattern of behavior which indicates a lack of integrity. No conviction or other adverse disposition for criminal offenses listed as a misdemeanor or felony as outlined in AR 601-210, chapter 4. Applicant should have a valid state driver’s license and be able to operate military vehicles and equipment organic to the unit. Applicant must have a working knowledge of automated office procedures. Must possess a valid security clearance required for the grade, MOS/AOC and AGR duty position.
