li .April 1945. As Commnnding General, 11th Airborne Di¥ision, General Sicinu
displayed superior tactical knowledge and Inspiring leadership wh!le personally
le-acling repented attacks against the strong Japanese defense position at Mt.
:Macolod, Batangns, Luzon. He flew many dangerous flights ln Unison airplanes
at low altitU<les o¥er the heavily defended ritlges in order to make a thorough
estimate of the enemy positions and of the terrain. Despite the protest of sub-
ordinates, he personally, nnd on foot, led tank destroyers forward tllrough intense
<>nemy machine-gun and mortar fire to place them in more advantageous poaltlons,
and directed theft• fire so effectively that the enemy-held ridge was taken without
:turther delay. He then mo¥ed to the south flank where he foun<l the front lines
~ta1emated and weapons unmanned because of hea"\"y enemy fire. With heroic
d!Bregard for his personal safety, General Swinu strode fearlessly between tanks
nnd machine guns, cn111ng upon his troops to man tl!elr weapons nnd attack. In-
spired bY his fea1·lessness and heroic action, the troops attacked, sllencecl tlle
Japanese fl.re, and seized nnd held the main enemy positions. 'l'hrough his in-

States Army, a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Far East
Air Force, on 1 April 1942, displayed gallantry In action at Agnloma Bay, Bataan,
Ph!llpplne Is!Rnds. While under heavy enemy ma.chine-gun and rifle fire, he saw
two wounded men in tlle area between the fighting lines. Without regard for his
own safety, and moving under the continuing, heavy enemy fire, he immediately
went to the stricken men and carried them to a place of safety. Sergeant Ray's
courage and fearless devotion to hls comrades are in keeping with highest tradi-

pany, forcing it to withdraw, he and three of his comrncles remained in position

maintained his hnzardous position, killing several of the enemy as ther nttemvted
to close ln. Later, when the attack was rcnewecl, again dellverlng accurate rifle

tions ngainst an enemy of the United States during the periods indicated 1s

Corporal William F. Bellon (Army serlnl No. ), Fie1d .Artillery, Army
ot the United Stntes, a member of the 1125th Armored Field Artillery Battalion,
on 29-30 De<!ember 1944, distinguished himself by heroic achievement near Forte
de llfarmi, Italy. Accompnnyl11g a patrol Into enemy territory, where they en-
countered strong enemy resistance and withering tire which in.fiicted heavy eas-
unlties, he worked to reorganize elements of the patrol. Assisting a severely
wounded officer, Corporal Bellon helped to lend the men from the precarious
position thro\lgh Icy waters In enemy territory and through mine fields to the
safety or friendly llnes, Corporal Bcllon'B leadership and courage are in keeping
wlth the highest truilltions of the military se!'vlce.
Captain ,lrnold J, Yoho, (then first lieutenant),. Cavalry, Army of
tbe United States, while serving as motor officer of Company A, 14th Tank
Battalion, displayed courageous and valorous actions on 6 ?lfay 1945. During
an attack, his company was held up by German antitank guns n.ntl suf!'e1·ed many
casualties: L\eutemmt Yoho, rea1i7,\ng the situation and the danger to the
wounded lylng \n·the open, personally brought up a quarter-ton truck and evncu-
ate<l the wounded and Injured. His actions were an example of bravery to the
