MEMORANDUM FOR SEE DISTRIBUTION
SUBJECT: Army Directive 2025-06 (Army Fitness Test)
1. Reference. See references enclosed.
2. Purpose. This directive establishes the Army Fitness Test (AFT) as the physical fitness test
of record, updates Army policies related to the AFT, and prescribes effective dates for
implementation. The AFT includes one fitness standard for all combat areas of
concentration (AOCs) and military occupational specialties (MOSs) and increases fitness
standards for all Soldiers. The AFT will improve readiness, enhance lethality, and reinforce the
warrior ethos.
3. Applicability. This directive applies to the Regular Army as well as the Army National
Guard/Army National Guard of the United States and U.S. Army Reserve (collectively, the
Reserve components).
4. Policy.
a. The AFT replaces the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) on 1 June 2025. The Army
will no longer conduct the ACFT after 31 May 2025. Soldier ACFT for-record tests taken before
31 May 2025 remain valid in accordance with current Army policies. Reference 1c is rescinded
effective 1 June 2025.
b. AFT Design. The AFT comprises five events: max dead lift, hand-release push-up,
sprint/drag/carry, plank, and 2-mile run.
(1) The AFT combat standard is sex-neutral and age-normed. Soldiers serving in
combat specialties must achieve a minimum of 60 points per event and an overall minimum
score of 350. The AFT combat standard applies to Soldiers serving in these AOCs and MOSs:
11A, 11B, 11C, 11Z, 12A, 12B, 13A, 13F, 18A, 180A, 18B, 18C, 18D, 18E, 18F, 18Z, 19A,
19C, 19D, 19K, and 19Z.
(2) The AFT general standard is performance-normed by sex and age. Soldiers serving
in all AOCs/MOSs not listed in paragraph 4b(1) of this directive must attain a score of at least
60 points per event.
c. Beginning 1 June 2025, all Soldiers requiring a record fitness test must pass the AFT
general standard.
SUBJECT: Army Directive 2025-06 (Army Fitness Test)
d. Soldiers in the Regular Army, Active Guard Reserve, and Reserve Components on
active-duty orders for more than 60 Days.
(1) These Soldiers must—
(a) Pass two record AFTs per calendar year, with no less than 4 months between passing
record tests.
(b) Pass a record AFT within 90 days of a record AFT or ACFT failure.
(2) Soldiers serving in combat specialties must achieve the AFT combat standard
beginning 1 January 2026. No adverse administrative action will be taken if a Soldier cannot
achieve the AFT combat standard prior to 1 January 2026.
e. Soldiers in the Reserve Components not identified in paragraph 4d of this directive.
(1) These Soldiers must—
(a) Pass the AFT once per calendar year for record, with no less than 8 months between
passing record tests.
(b) Pass a record AFT within 180 days of a record AFT or ACFT failure.
(2) Soldiers serving in combat specialties must achieve the AFT combat standard
beginning 1 June 2026. No adverse administrative action will be taken if a Soldier cannot
achieve the AFT combat standard prior to 1 June 2026.
f. Initial Entry Training and Professional Military Education courses that administer a
fitness test after 31 May 2025 must administer an AFT.
g. Permanent Profiles. Pursuant to reference 1e, Soldiers with a permanent profile will take
all events not prohibited by a permanent profile. Soldiers must receive a “GO” in the alternative
aerobic event, if taken. Soldiers serving in combat specialties must pass all events not prohibited
by a permanent profile with an average of 70 points or higher (4 events minimum 280 points =
“PASS,” 3 events minimum 210 points = “PASS,” 2 events minimum 140 points = “PASS,” and
1 event minimum 70 points = “PASS”). Soldiers serving in combat specialties will receive
70 points for a “GO” on the alternate aerobic event and for all events prohibited by profile for the
purpose of semi-centralized promotions.
h. Retention and In-service Reclassification. Soldiers in combat specialties who pass the
AFT general standard but do not achieve the AFT combat standard will be subject to in-service
reclassification or utilization according to the needs of the Army.
