1. This message will expire one year following the date of issue.
2. Background.
a. The Assistant Secretary of the Army (Manpower and Reserve Affairs) approved the establishment and permanent Army-Wide wear of the Jungle Tab as an official skill tab.
b. Active, Reserve, and National Guard component Soldiers who complete the Jungle Operations Training Course (JOTC) are authorized to wear the Jungle Tab on Army Uniforms in reference to C and D above.
c. The Jungle Tab will be awarded to all United States Army Soldiers who executed unit level training at JOTC in Fort Sherman, Panama from 1990 until closure in 1999 or completed training at the Hawaii or Panama based Jungle Schools, eligibility is granted for both courses.
d. The Jungle Tab will be worn after the Sapper Tab and before the President’s Hundred Tab.
3. Award Eligibility Criteria.
a. The Jungle Tab approval authority is the Battalion Commander/LTC/O-5 (or above) or Equivalent Level Commander in the chain of command.
b. All requests for current members must be submitted through an IPPS-A PAR to the approval authority listed in paragraph 3a. To initiate the PAR: Create new PAR — select Admin Records Correction for the *Action – select Other for *Reason – enter Jungle Tab under *Other Type – list a brief description under *More information – upload supporting documents under attachments – submit to S-1 Pool for processing. Once approved, HR Professionals must enter the approved tab under Person Profile – Awards – Combat and Special Skills Badges Category, by searching the description “contains” Jungle Tab. Requests must include one of the following:
i. Graduation certificate
ii. Certificate of training
iii. Unit orders
iv. ATRRS student record
4. Procedures for awarding the Jungle Tab to Veterans.
a. Veterans and retirees must provide evidence that determines eligibility. Examples of acceptable evidence include Deployment/TDY/mobilization orders or copies of temporary duty or special duty orders validating eligibility criteria. Retroactive eligibility is authorized for service members who executed unit level training at JOTC in Fort Sherman, Panama from 1990 until closure in 1999 or completed training at the Hawaii or Panama based Jungle Schools. Retroactive eligibility is granted for both courses. A DA Form 4187 is not required.
b. Veterans and retirees submit all award inquiries for approval or disapproval to the Awards and Decorations Branch at usarmy.knox.hrc.mbx.tagd-awards@army.mil or Awards and Decorations Branch, U.S. Army Human Resources Command, ATTN: AHRC-PDP-A, 1600 Spearhead Division Avenue, Fort Knox, KY 40122-5408.
