California Army National Guard AGR Application System: FTSMCS (CAC required)
If you are searching for California AGR jobs or Cal Guard jobs, note that the California Military Department careers page covers several employment categories. This ArmyNG page focuses on California Army National Guard Active Guard Reserve (AGR) opportunities. The official Cal Guard careers page states that CAARNG AGR vacancy announcements and applications are managed through FTSMCS and require CAC access.
How to Find and Apply for California AGR Jobs
- Start with the official Cal Guard CMD Jobs page. Open the Active Guard Reserve – Army section and review the current California guidance before entering the application system.
- Open FTSMCS and sign in with your military CAC. California states that Army AGR accessions are managed through FTSMCS.
- Go to Applications → ARNG-HRA → Jobs → Apply for a Position. If you need an FTSMCS account, follow the account-creation steps in California’s official AGR Jobs Module instructions.
- Select CA as the State of Assignment and search. Open the vacancy announcement you want and read the full announcement before applying.
- Confirm area of consideration, grade, MOS/branch, and vacancy type. California distinguishes New Hire, OTOT, and Lateral AGR opportunities, and eligibility differs by announcement.
- Complete the application and upload the required documents. California’s FTSMCS instructions identify NGB Form 34-1 as a core application document and require applicants to complete the blocks and document uploads required by the vacancy.
- Use the official vacancy as the final authority. ArmyNG helps organize opportunities, but the current Cal Guard announcement and FTSMCS application control eligibility, documents, and deadlines.
California AGR application checklist
- Confirm the announcement number, job title, duty location, and closing date.
- Verify whether the vacancy is New Hire, OTOT, or Lateral.
- Verify whether the area of consideration is Statewide or Nationwide.
- Confirm grade, MOS or branch, membership status, and any qualification requirements.
- Prepare the required forms and supporting documents listed in the controlling announcement.
- Submit through FTSMCS using the process required for that vacancy.
California AGR Jobs FAQ
Can I see every current California Army AGR vacancy without a CAC?
Not necessarily. California’s public CMD Jobs page explains the AGR program and application process, but it directs applicants to FTSMCS for the current Army AGR vacancy announcements and applications, and FTSMCS requires CAC access.
What does Statewide vs. Nationwide mean for California AGR jobs?
California’s current public guidance says Statewide vacancy announcements require current California Army National Guard membership. Nationwide announcements may accept eligible members of the Active Army, Army National Guard, or Army Reserve, subject to the exact vacancy announcement.
Are California AGR jobs the same as technician or ADOS jobs?
No. The California Military Department separates Army AGR opportunities from federal civilian/technician and other employment categories. For status differences, see M-Day vs AGR vs ADOS. You can also browse Army National Guard AGR jobs by state and Title 10 opportunities.
