Founded in 1983, School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) and the Advanced Military Studies Program (AMSP) educates warfighters who help commanders and senior leaders execute their role in the operations process: understand the operational environment and then visualize, describe, direct, lead, and assess viable solutions to operational problems. Graduates of the AMSP are critical and creative thinkers grounded in operational theory, doctrine, and history; can clearly communicate to various audiences orally, graphically, and in writing; are great teammates who collaborate effectively; have the moral courage to lead from above, besides, and below; are physically tough and mentally resilient; and are humble professionals who are more than they seem.
