     a. ALARACT 040/2022, NOMINATIONS FOR THE 17TH SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE ARMY (SMA) (CUI), DTG: R 221510Z JUN 22. The 16th Sergeant Major of the Army will complete his tour on or about 1 August 2023. The Chief of Staff, Army (CSA) will select the new SMA from nominations provided by a board to be convened at HQDA on 5 October 2022. The SMA nominating board will be comprised of general officers and the current SMA. Nominations must be submitted not later than 16 august 2022 via memorandum by a commander, lieutenant general or higher, in the nominated NCO’s normal chain of command (commanders must ensure the nominated CSM/SGM desires consideration).
