     a. ARMY DIRECTIVE 2021-15, ARMY CAREER INTERMISSION PROGRAM, 6 MAY 21. This directive implements the Army Career Intermission Program (CIP) as a permanent Army retention program as authorized by Title 10, U.S. Code, section 710(10 U.S.C. 710). Army Directive 2017-18 is hereby rescinded. The CIP provides a one-time temporary transition from active duty in the RA or USAR AGR program to the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) to allow Soldiers to meet personal or professional needs while providing a mechanism for their return to active duty. The long-term intent of the CIP is to retain the valuable investment inexperience and training the Army would otherwise lose when Soldiers separate permanently. Under the CIP, Soldiers will retain certain benefits and return to active duty (RA to RA, AGR to AGR) at the end of the inactive duty period. https://www.milsuite.mil/book/docs/DOC-977604

This MILPER message describes an update to officer promotions that took effect in FY20.  This change does not affect officers in the Primary or Above Zones of consideration.  However, it does change the method of consideration for officers below the Primary Zone.  Under the new process, officers whose date of rank to LTC is later than the Primary Zone must request consideration.  Said another way, officers are no longer automatically considered for “Below Zone” promotion.  Instead, they must take proactive measures to opt in for consideration by the board. https://www.hrc.army.mil/Milper/21-136
