1. ** UPDATE/CLARIFICATION** CSM/1SG VS SGM/MSG ON RETIREMENT AWARDS. From HRC Awards and Decorations Branch: The U.S. Army Human Resources Command, Awards and Decorations Branch recognizes the privilege and honor to serve as a Command Sergeant Major or First Sergeant in the United States Army. The ranks of Command Sergeant Major and First Sergeant are earned through a thorough analysis of character, presence, and leadership that is used to identify the readiness for increased duties and responsibilities. Effective 01 January 2022, Sergeants Major and Master Sergeants currently serving in a terminal staff position and have successfully served in a previous Command Sergeant Major or First Sergeant position will be authorized to use the rank of CSM/1SG on their retirement award. The rank of CSM/1SG will appear on the DA Form 638, award certificate, and permanent order. A COPY OF THE PROMOTION ORDERS WITH GRADE HELD AS CSM/1SG SHOULD ACCOMPANY THE RETIREMENT AWARDS SUBMISSION PACKET. This action is not retroactive. 2. TEAM COHESION: BUILD A CULTURE OF TRUST. AWARDING TRANSITIONING SOLDIERS THE SOLDIER FOR LIFE LAPEL PIN.  Also termed the Army Lapel Button in AR 600-81, “Military Awards”, these lapel pins instill pride in service that extends beyond wearing the uniform and helps reinforce the Soldier for Life mindset.  Unit Commanders should award the Soldier For Life pin at an appropriate ceremony to recognize honorable service that meets the requirements stated in paragraph 6-20 of AR 600-81.  These pins can be ordered through unit supply channels using the NSN, which is 8455016467073. 4. HR CREDENTIALING PROGRAM SPRING 2022 SESSION START DATE.
