MEMORANDUM FOR SEE DISTRIBUTION
SUBJECT: Army Directive 2025-24 (Expansion of Anny Assignments)
1. References. See references enclosed.
2. Purpose. This directive rescinds Army Directive 2016-01 solely to implement terminology
required by Executive Order 14168 and does not change Army policy.
3. Applicability. The provisions of this directive apply to the Regular Anny, Anny National
Guard (ARNG)/Anny National Guard of the United States, and U.S. Anny Reserve.
4. Policy. Where the provisions of this policy conflict with any other Anny regulation, this
directive is controlling. The following amendments to Army regulations (ARs) are effective
immediately:
a. AR 135-100. Revise paragraph 3-15 (Branch) to read:
The branch of assignment for applicants will be determined by the authority
tendering appointment. The branch will be based on the applicant's qualifications
and the needs of the Service.
b. AR 140-50.
(1) Delete paragraph 2-4c.
(2) Delete paragraph 3-lc(2).
(3) Delete paragraph 4-8b(7).
C. AR 350-51.
(1) Revise paragraph 3-2a(l) to read:
Applicants-2-combat arms, 2-combat support arms, and 2-combat
service support arms. One combat arms branch must be among the first three
choices. The remaining four branch choices will be at the applicant's discretion.

(2) Delete paragraph 3-2a(2) and renumber paragraph 3-2a(3) to 3-2a(2).
d. AR 601-50. Delete paragraph l la(2) and renumber paragraph l la(3) as l la(2).
5. Responsibilities.
a. Commanders, through their respective G-1 s and S-1 s, are responsible for executing the
provisions of this directive.
b. The Director, ARNG will provide additional implementing guidance to its commanders
and S-ls.
c. The ARNG Directorate G-1, State adjutants general, commanders, and S-1 s are
responsible for executing the provisions of this directive in ARNG units.
6. Proponent. The Assistant Secretary of the Army (Manpower and Reserve Affairs) has
oversight responsibility for this policy. The Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1 will incorporate its
provisions into AR 135-100, AR 140-50, AR 350-51, and AR 601-50 within 2 years of the date
of this directive.
7. Duration. This directive is rescinded on publication of the revised regulations.
