1. FROM ARMY G-1 COMPENSATION AND ENTITLEMENTS.
a. EMERGENCY LEAVE OF ABSENCE (ELA). Army DCS, G-1 is
experiencing an increase in requests for ELA. According to AR 600-8-10,
advance leave is granted based on the amount of leave a Soldier will
accrue during their remaining active-duty period. Additionally, DoD
Policy (DoDI 1327.06) states that Emergency Leave of Absence is intended
to prevent Servicemembers from entering advanced or excess leave
status, which could result in recoupment of pay and allowances. A
request for ELA must include the following documents: IPPS-A PAR
requesting ELA, number of leave days, and leave period; Red Cross
Message; signed letter from primary care physician; Advance Leave

b. CAREER SKILLS PROGRAM (CSP) ADMINISTRATIVE ABSENCE ETP TO NOT RETURN TO PDS. In accordance with AR 600-8-10, Soldiers attending CSP are required to return to the PDS to complete out-processing requirements. Soldiers who desire to not return to their PDS must apply for an ETP through DCS, G-1 Compensation and Entitlements Division.
